CS 461 / 462 / 463:

Career Preparation and Software Engineering Capstone Project

Fall-Winter-Spring Quarters 2009-2010

http://cs.oregonstate.edu/capstone

"You are always in your career." -- Matthew Moran

"Given the uncertain and changing character of the world in which 2020 engineers will work, engineers will need something that cannot be described in a single word. It involves dynamism, agility, resilience, and flexibility. Not only will technology change quickly, the social-political-economic world in which engineers work will change continuously. In this context it will not be this or that particular knowledge that engineers will need, but rather the ability to learn new things quickly and the ability to apply knowledge to new problems and new contexts."
-- National Academy of Engineering's "The Engineer of 2020" report

The Virtual Hand Raise

I recognize that it sometimes takes courage to ask a question in class or to express an opinion. But, the worst thing of all is to not say anything! So, this class has a feature called the Virtual Hand Raise. Click here to get into it. It will allow you to send me a question or comment, completely anonymously. I will answer all questions submitted this way at the start of the next class.

Adobe Connect

In an effort to help you communicate better with your clients, we have obtained a virtual "room" on Adobe Connect. Stay tuned for more details.

Beaver Source

All projects are encouraged to use CS's new code-sharing social-networking site Beaver Source. As a start, I've created a group called "CS 46*", which you should join. Feel free to create a new group for your project. It's a great way to show the world what you are doing.

Grading

Grades will be posted through this web page. To protect your privacy, they will be posted by your alias that you give me in Project #1. Click here to see the current grade posting.

Here is the Fall Quarter grading scheme.

Attendance

Some classes will be specific to running your project. Some classes will relate to CS Career Preparation. You are expected to attend all classes. Attendance will be taken at some classes and will contribute to your grade.

Students With Disabilities

Accommodations are collaborative efforts between students, faculty and Disability Access Services (DAS). Students with accommodations approved through DAS are responsible for contacting the faculty member in charge of the course prior to or during the first week of the term to discuss accommodations. Students who believe they are eligible for accommodations but who have not yet obtained approval through DAS should contact DAS immediately at 737-4098.
