| "Before everything else, getting ready is the secret of success." | -- Henry Ford |
| "You are always in your career." | -- Matthew Moran |
| "Given the uncertain and changing character of the world in which 2020 engineers will work, engineers will need something that cannot be described in a single word. It involves dynamism, agility, resilience, and flexibility. Not only will technology change quickly, the social-political-economic world in which engineers work will change continuously. In this context it will not be this or that particular knowledge that engineers will need, but rather the ability to learn new things quickly and the ability to apply knowledge to new problems and new contexts." | ||

Here is the Ten-Tough-Interview-Questions link from Ken Saul's talk:
http://msn.careerbuilder.com/Article/MSN-1778-Interviewing-How-to-Answer-10-Tough-Interview-Questions/?sc_extcmp=JS_1778_advice&SiteId=cbmsn41778&catid=iv
or, on Windows:
\\stak.engr.oregonstate.edu\classes\eecs\fall2009\cs461\teams\tXX
This is a good place to work on common files, do version control, etc.
There is also a soft link so that these spaces will work as web directories:
http://classes.engr.oregonstate.edu/eecs/fall2009/cs461/teams/tXX/qqq.html
If you have need for a MySQL database, have one person from your team
send email to support@engr.oregonstate.edu and ask for it.
Let them know you are part of this class, and what team number you are.
These areas will persist throughout the school year. Thus, even when the
name of this class has changed to CS462 or CS463, the ...fall2009...
and ...cs461... parts of the path will stay the same.
For more details, or to register,
go here.
A list of companies attending is available
here.
Also, be sure to upload your resume (even if you can't make it).
We make a resume book from these and give them to the companies.
Companies do make hiring decisions based on the resume book - so don't miss out.
I found this link
on Salary.com to be useful, especially for
Software Engineer I.
It seems to confirm Ken Saul's estimate.
(I put in Corvallis as the location. Higher cost-of-living areas should be higher.)
The Team P3 page is here.
By default, this page only shows you the first 20 company names.
Ask for 250 at a time to get the whole list.
Then search for College of Engineering -> Computer Science
to see the 71 (as of now) that you probably most care about.
The whole Career Services site can be found
here.

I recognize that it sometimes takes courage to ask a question in class or to express an opinion.
But, the worst thing of all is to not say anything!
So, this class has a feature called the Virtual Hand Raise.
Click here to get into it.
It will allow you to send me a question or comment,
completely anonymously.
I will answer all questions submitted this way at the start of the next class.
In an effort to help you communicate better with your clients,
we have obtained a virtual "room" on Adobe Connect.
Stay tuned for more details.
All projects are encouraged to use CS's new code-sharing social-networking site
Beaver Source.
As a start, I've created a group called "CS 46*", which you should join.
Feel free to create a new group for your project.
It's a great way to show the world what you are doing.
To see an academic year calendar,
Here is the Fall Quarter class schedule.
Grades will be posted through this web page.
To protect your privacy,
they will be posted by your alias that you give me in Project #1.
Click here to see the current grade posting.
Here is the Fall Quarter grading scheme.
Some classes will be specific to running your project.
Some classes will relate to CS Career Preparation.
You are expected to attend all classes.
Attendance will be taken at some classes and will contribute to your grade.
Accommodations are collaborative efforts between students, faculty and Disability Access Services (DAS). Students with accommodations approved through DAS are responsible for contacting the faculty member in charge of the course prior to or during the first week of the term to discuss accommodations. Students who believe they are eligible for accommodations but who have not yet obtained approval through DAS should contact DAS immediately at 737-4098.
If you do not understand some part of either document, please come talk with me!
Put sample.cpp and the Windows version of the glut and glui files together in a separate folder.
