Oregon State leads fight against gender bias in software
Researchers at Oregon State have created a method called GenderMag that enables IT professionals to identify and eliminate gender biases in the software they create, configure, or purchase, to make the software more equitable. The GenderMag research team is led by two OSU professors, Margaret Burnett and Anita Sarma, both with the College of Engineering, who have pushed OSU to lead the fight against gender bias in its own IT. Researchers reach milestone in use of nanoparticles to kill cancer with heat
Researchers at Oregon State University have developed an improved technique for using magnetic nanoclusters to kill hard-to-reach tumors. Magnetic nanoparticles – tiny pieces of matter as small as one-billionth of a meter – have shown anti-cancer promise for tumors easily accessible by syringe, allowing the particles to be injected directly into the cancerous growth. Start-ups and Successes
Honors graduate Brett Stoddard is no stranger to developing ideas and companies. This summer, he’ll continue to create new opportunities by co-founding a startup in the medical technology space. “Now that I’m graduating, I’m co-founding another startup in the medical technology space. Developing a Career: Honors Student Works Second Internship with Google
This summer, honors computer science student Phillip Mestas will be returning to Google for his second internship with the company. Data Incubator
The Data Incubator is an intensive 8 week fellowship that prepares masters students, PhDs, and postdocs in STEM and social science fields seeking industry careers as data scientists. The program is free for Fellows and supported by sponsorships from hundreds of employers across multiple industries. Anyone who has already obtained a masters or PhD degree or who is within one year of graduating with a masters or PhD is welcome to apply. Applications from international students are welcome.
