POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
Tenure-Track Faculty Positions (2)

Position
Oregon State University seeks faculty members to join our School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and contribute to our vision of exciting cross-disciplinary collaborative research. We invite applications for two (2), full-time, tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. We desire candidates whose research complements and strengthens our existing collaborative research teams. These include teams in end-user software engineering (http://eecs.oregonstate.edu/EUSES/), intelligent user interfaces (http://eecs.oregonstate.edu/TaskTracer/), machine learning, eco-system informatics, and graphics and visualization (http://eecs.oregonstate.edu/igvl/). We particularly seek candidates in the areas of human-computer interaction, machine learning, software engineering, and software systems (operating systems, components, middleware, web services).

Salary
$70,002-$110,007 (commensurate with experience)

Review of applications will begin December 1, 2004. For full consideration, applications must be received by January 31, 2005.

Start Date
Appointments are expected to begin September 16, 2005 but may begin earlier.

Responsibilities
1. Assistant Professor: Duties will include: teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in Computer Science; developing and conducting a viable research program, and the securing of grant and contract funding for it; pursuing school and university service activities as assigned; pursuing professional activities as expected from a professional computer scientist; liaison with local industry.

2. Associate/Full Professor: Duties will include: teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in Computer Science; developing and conducting research and securing outside grant and contract funds for this research activity (including the  support of graduate students); providing leadership to junior faculty, research associates, and graduate students; providing leadership and development of school programs and activities; participation in school and university service activities as assigned; pursuit of professional development programs; liaison with local industry.

Qualifications
1. Assistant Professor: An earned doctoral degree in  Computer Science or related area required. Evidence of potential as a teacher based upon letters of recommendation, experience in teaching while a graduate student or other appropriate experience is essential. Evidence of research capability based upon letters of reference, performance as a graduate student, publications, and involvement in research activity. Evidence of productivity in program development based upon letters of recommendation and presentation of a seminar to the school faculty. Preferred qualifications include a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

2. Associate Professor/Professor: An earned doctoral degree in Computer Science or related area required. A minimum of four years of highly-productive service at another university or four years of experience in industry; an established record of research productivity and scholarship as evidenced by research programs sponsored by grant and contracts that the individual has obtained; six or more publications in refereed journals; an established reputation in the area of specialization as evidenced by letters of recommendation; an established record of teaching competence as evidenced by letters of recommendation or a documented record; evidence of providing leadership and fully satisfactory service in the development of school programs including off-campus associations with industry and the profession. Preferred qualifications include a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

School
The OSU School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science within the College of Engineering integrates top notch undergraduate and graduate education with nationally recognized cutting edge research. We have strong ties with Pacific Northwest high-tech companies, including Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, Intel, Tektronix, and Mentor Graphics.

We offer B.A., B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.

The School has approximately 1300 undergraduate majors, 320 graduate students and 45 faculty (see http://eecs.oregonstate.edu). We will be moving into our new $45 million Kelley Engineering Center (http://engr.oregonstate.edu/top25/building/) in Fall 2005.
