Our football formation dataset poses an interesting challenge for object recognition methods because the types of players in each formation are different, and the spatial locations of the players in the formation are determined by the players’ types. We have thus made our dataset freely available for benchmarking purposes. You can download the dataset below.
Included in the dataset are images of the initial formation from 51 different football plays. Along with each image is included a registration matrix to transform the image into the coordinate space of a scale model NCAA football field (this model is also included in the dataset) and a set of ground truth locations and types for the players in the offensive formation.
