Graduate Studies: Teaching & Research Assistantships

Important notice! The application period for Fall 2008 admission is September 1, 2007-January 15, 2008

M.S. and Ph.D. students participate in a variety of nationally recognized research projects. Our faculty members perform world-class research and offer graduate level instruction in diverse areas such as Intelligent Information Systems, Computer Graphics and Vision, Information Security, Energy Systems, Materials and Devices, Mixed Signal Integration, Learning and Adaptive Systems, and End Users Shaping Effective Software.

EECS Assistantships
Applicants with a very strong record and particular aptitude for graduate research may be offered an assistantship or fellowship, in which case they earn a salary and pay no tuition while in graduate school. Graduate students may also be eligible for awards and internships that can lead to excellent permanent jobs at Oregon companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Mentor Graphics, and Tektronix.

The School of EECS currently has about 180 graduate assistants and fellowship winners. This financial support includes a waiver of tuition and a monthly stipend. Teaching assistants work up to 20 hours per week for 9 months, while research assistants and fellowship winners work up to 20 hours per week for 12 months.

Ph.D. students expecting to take a teaching/research position at a college or university are strongly encouraged to gain teaching experience as a Graduate Teaching Assistant or part-time instructor. There are usually opportunities for graduate students to serve as part-time instructors during summer term.

Applicants to the School of EECS do not need to complete a separate application in order to be considered for assistantships.
