OSU Engineering Reaches Out To Students in India and Other Asian Nations

Story Posted: Thu, Sep 13, 2007

From September 22rd to October 5th, OSU College of Engineering Associate Dean Dr. Chris Bell will be representing OSU during a recruiting trip to India. This will be Bell’s third annual recruiting trip to India, and this year he will make stops at the Linden University Fairs in Hyderabad, and Chennai, as well as an IIE fair in New Delhi. He will also be available to meet students in Bangalore, Lucknow and Kanpur. In addition to meeting prospective students at the various fairs, he will visit several top colleges to talk with faculty and students. As his schedule permits, he will also arrange individual meetings with prospective students.

Dr. Chris Bell in IndiaBell was asked to represent OSU in India again this year because the OSU College of Engineering enrolls the largest number of Indian students on campus, with approximately 100 Indian students are currently enrolled. Because his position as an associate dean involves frequent interaction with all other OSU colleges, Bell is knowledgeable about most academic majors on campus.

About his upcoming trip, Bell says, “The experience I gained in India the  last two years is invaluable, but I have learned a great deal by talking extensively with people at OSU, including how effective the OSU India Students Association (ISA) is in the recruiting process. The ISA is an incredible resource for new students arriving from India. They arrange pick-up at the airport, accommodation in Corvallis, and just about every aspect of adjusting to a new location. Most of the new students have never been outside India before they make the journey to Oregon. So the ISA plays a vital role in creating a supportive community for Indian students at Oregon State University"
