College Hands Out Annual Awards at Faculty Staff Breakfast

CORVALLIS, Ore. –The College of Engineering at Oregon State University recently recognized and honored eleven exemplary faculty, staff and students for their outstanding work and service during the past year in an awards ceremony at the college’s annual fall breakfast.

“The College of Engineering is fortunate to have such great people working together to create opportunity for our students and for Oregon and the nation,” said Ron Adams, dean of engineering at OSU. “I feel proud of their many accomplishments and contributions, and am especially proud of the individuals whose excellence has been recognized with the 2009 college awards.”

Awardees include:

  • Samantha Godfrey, a 2009 graduate of the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering: The Burgess/Tektronix Award, which recognizes an "outstanding senior in the College of Engineering, as judged by a variety of activities beyond just academic performance."
  • Greg Guannel in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering: The Graduate Teaching Assistant Award, which rewards efforts “beyond the level normally expected of a GTA."
  • Clayton Jeffryes in the School of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering: The Graduate Research Assistant Award, which recognizes contributions “beyond the level normally expected of a GRA."
  • Gina Newcomb in the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering: The Classified Employee Award in recognition of exceptional performance and service.
  • Tracy Ann Robinson in the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering: The Professional Faculty Award, which recognizes " outstanding performance by a faculty member whose contribution and service is not defined within the traditional categories of teaching, research, or extension."
  • Margaret Burnett in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science: The Research Award for "sustained, unusually significant and meritorious achievement in research and scholarship."
  • Todd Palmer in the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Health Physics: The Alumni Professor Award. Sponsored entirely through alumni contributions, this award is intended to carry the same level of distinction as an endowed chair and its purpose is to recognize excellence in teaching and service to students.
  • Karen Dixon in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering: The Austin Paul Award, which recognizes faculty who “develop student relationships in which they lead, encourage, and stimulate students in the pursuit of creative and innovative engineering ideas.”
  • Pavan Hanumolu in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science: The Engelbrecht Young Faculty Award, whose purpose is to recognize outstanding young faculty in the College of Engineering.
  • Annette von Jouanne in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science: The Research Collaboration Award, which recognizes a member of the engineering faculty for “sustained, unusually significant and meritorious achievement in collaborative research and scholarship.”
  • Jonathan Istok in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering: The Loyd Carter Award, which recognizes faculty for “outstanding and inspirational teaching" as voted by members of the junior and senior class in the College of Engineering.
