Oregon green chemistry center wins $20M grant
The Center for Sustainable Materials Chemistry, a collaboration between Oregon State University and the University of Oregon, beat out teams from two other universities to win a $20 million grant from the National Science Foundation to develop greener chemical processes. Under the new grant, the center will expand the work that it has done in green chemistry, specifically the development of water-based processes that are of interest in electronics and renewable energy materials manufacturing. HP Announces Recipients of Fourth Annual HP Labs Innovation Research Awards
Assistant professor Patrick Chiang received an HP Labs Innovation Research Program (IRP) award. The awards are intended to provide financial support for a graduate student to assist the principal investigator in conducting a collaborative research project with HP Labs. The IRP 2011 call for proposals attracted 626 submissions from 525 researchers at 239 universities in more than 30 countries. This year, a total of 62 projects at 51 universities received funding. OSU engineering dean shifts to research role
Ron Adams, the dean of Oregon State University’s College of Engineering, will be the university’s first executive associate vice president for research. In the role, he’ll work to build more partnerships between the university and private industry to stimulate more research jobs and external grant dollars for OSU, along with more internship and employment opportunities for students. Jen-Hsun Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA, to Present SC11 Keynote
Jen-Hsun Huang, a seminal figure in visual and parallel computing, and NVIDIA’s co-founder, president and CEO, will deliver the SC11 keynote address at Seattle’s Washington State Convention and Trade Center. He will discuss the scientific milestones and challenges facing supercomputing designers as they pursue the advanced computational needs of the future. Wave Energy Ocean Test Facility Manager, Northwest National Marine Renewable Energy Center (NNMREC), Oregon State University. The OTF Manager is responsible for developing NNMREC's ocean testing program. The OTF is to be the nation's first public full-scale facility of its kind for wave energy devices and is being developed in phases.
