Oregon’s Semiconductor Sector Is 3rd Largest in the Nation with 23,600 Jobs

“Oregon’s tech industry is diverse,” said Jennifer Bosze, regional vice president, TechAmerica. “With a heavy reliance on semiconductor manufacturing, it was positive to see job gains in that sector in 2010 bucking the general national trend. Certainly, the decision by Intel Corp. to build the D1X fab in Hillsboro is a hugely positive sign.” TechAmerica

Volunteers Needed for OSU FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Competition. The OSU Robotics Club is hosting a FIRST Tech Challenge robotics competition on Saturday, February 11th. We need your help to make this competition a success! There will be over 20 teams competing, and we need judges, referees, inspectors, time keepers, and more. All volunteers will receive a t-shirt and lunch on the day of the competition. Intel Innovators is an Intel-sponsored Facebook platform and contest that showcases 18-24 year-old innovators with game-changing, technology-based ideas. Every month, Intel will award up to $100K to the best ideas based on support from members of the Facebook community and a live pitch where the top five innovators face-off for the prize money. SCHOLARSHIPS/FELLOWSHIPS

Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship: USA. Google hopes to encourage women to excel in computing and technology and become active role models and leaders in the field. A group of female undergraduate and graduate students will be chosen from the applicant pool, and scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of each candidate’s academic background and demonstrated leadership. All scholarship recipients and finalists will be invited to attend the Annual Google Scholars’ Retreat in Mountain View, California in 2011. Recipients will each receive a $10,000 award for the 2012-2013 academic year. Details

Google Scholarships in North America - Now accepting applications. As part of Google’s ongoing commitment to advancing computing and technology, we are pleased to support the work of our partner organizations in providing scholarships to students studying computer science. Scholarship recipients will each receive a $10,000 scholarship for the 2012-2013 academic year and will be invited to attend the all-expenses-paid annual Google Scholars’ Retreat at the Googleplex in Mountain View, CA. Scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of the applicants’ academic background and their demonstrated passion for computer science. Details

Tau Beta Pi Scholarships. The program is designed for members of Tau Beta Pi who will be returning to college for the next academic year for full time undergraduate study. Those students who will be enrolled for two semesters, three quarters or two trimesters are eligible to apply for a $2,000 award. Those students enrolled for one semester, two quarters, or one trimester are eligible to apply for a $1,000 award. Details
