SCHOLARSHIPS/FELLOWSHIPS

The Paul and Ellen Ruckes Scholarship provides one scholarship of $1,000 to a full-time undergraduate or graduate student studying in the field of engineering or in computer, physical, or life sciences. Undergraduate or graduate students who are blind or visually impaired pursuing a degree in engineering, computer, physical, or life sciences are eligible. United States citizenship is required. SanDisk Corporation has partnered with the United Negro College Fund to offer a $2,500 renewable scholarship to college students majoring in one of the STEM disciplines for the 2012-13 academic year. Students must be African American enrolled full-time as a sophomore, junior or senior at an accredited institution. Details

The OSU Folk Club Thrift Shop Scholarship Committee is accepting applications from older-than-average women students who are U.S. citizens and residents of Benton County, age 30 or older who will be attending OSU full time in 2012-2013, while pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s or professional degree (PhD and EdD candidates are not eligible). Applications are available at the Thrift Shop, 144 NW 2nd Street; at the OSU Financial Aid Office; the OSU Women’s Center; and OSU College Advisors’ offices. The applications are also available online at http://oregonstate.edu/groups/osufolk. Deadline is March 19.

The Illuminating Engineering Society is actively looking for students to apply for the Thunen Memorial Scholarship. Applications for the Thunen Memorial scholarships may be made by those who will be junior, senior, or graduate students in an accredited four year college or university. Details

Applications are being accepted by the Corvallis Branch of the American Association of University Women for two scholarships to be awarded for the academic year 2012-13. The applicants must be women students 25 years of age or older who live in Benton or Linn County. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an Oregon State University student seeking her first undergraduate degree. A $750 scholarship will be awarded to a Linn-Benton Community College student seeking a certificate or degree. The application deadline is 5 p.m. April 6. Details

RESEARCH EXPERIENCES FOR UNDERGRADUATES

Research Experiences for Undergraduates in New Paradigms of Information Retrieval from Diverse Data, Department of Computer Science, Texas State University. The intellectual theme of this new REU site is information retrieval with a focus on new paradigms and diverse data. The world is becoming increasingly digitalized. Digital data appear in diverse forms: textual, multimedia, georeferenced, structured, etc. Retrieving information from such diverse data of large scale pose unprecedented challenges. New paradigms need to be explored and next-generation computer scientists need to be prepared with advances in this field. Application deadline: March 15. Details

Research Experiences for Undergraduates in Mobile Cyber-Physical Systems, Texas State University. The main theme of this opportunity is in the general area of Mobile Cyber-Physical Systems. A Mobile CPS refers to a system composed of physical and computation components that are mobile and can communicate over a network. A swarm of robots is an example of a Mobile CPS. Users roaming with their cell phones is another example of a mobile CPS. Application deadline: March 15. Details

Research projects will focus on high performance data mining techniques with parallel computing, cloud computing and machine learning, and their broad applications such as bioinformatics and security. Two student programming / system development positions, TeachEngineering. TeachEngineering is a collaboration between four universities. It's a growing digital library of K-12 science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning resources. Develop codes and testing procedures, both user interfaces and backend processes, mostly in PHP/HTTP and (MY)SQL. The system is hosted on Linux at OSU's Open Source Lab. Development is mostly on Windows. Details

IT Intern - Sharepoint, PacificSource. Assist with support of our Sharepoint efforts. Responsibilities include assisting with design, integration, and maintenance of the existing Microsoft Office 2007 SharePoint farm. Specific projects could include: Improve existing SharePoint features and applications. Develop new SharePoint-based applications and workflows.  Design new user interfaces. Develop new graphical features. Maintain, support and improve existing sites and streamline work processes. Details

Assist our IT staff in providing information system solutions to internal departments and external customers and partners.  Responsibilities will include assisting in the design, document, develop, configure, test, and maintain mission-critical applications. IT Intern - Dynamo Developer – SQL focus, PacificSource. Assist in the implementation of new capability on the Dynamo platform. Develop new workflows, reports, and documents using the SQL query based interface of the Dynamo system.  Provide support of the Dynamo system to the Health Services community. Must be a computer science/information management student with junior, senior, or grad student status in Spring term. Experience with SQL development, familiarity with ASP.Net and C#. Maxim's Hillsboro design center has an opening for an RF/mixed-signal internship this summer working on a project our ADC team is contributing towards. Details

Marvell Corvallis site has a confirmed internship opportunity for the summer. Students who like the VLSI System Design class will really like this job, because the student will be working on simulation, synthesis and physical design aspects and the scripts that we use with commercial tools. Graduate student in EE, CS or closely related field; Basic understanding of Verilog HDL; Basic understanding of ASIC design.

COE Ambassador/Tour Guides Needed for Spring term. COE Ambassador Tour Guides will provide tours of the College of Engineering, Hinsdale Wave Research Laboratory and OSU to K-12 student group and community members. The tours are approximately 45 to one hour long and occur Monday-Friday between the hours of 8-5. The ambassador program will provide training and support for student tour guides. The goal of these tours is inform and inspire young students into engineering fields and to build esteem for the engineering profession. Key Skills: Communication and Presentation skills are critical, Enthusiasm for Engineering and OSU, willingness to learn information. Schedule must be flexible and tour guides must be timely and responsible for signing up and showing up for events. Details

Research Office Web Design Assistant, University Administrative Business Center. The Research Office is looking for an innovative student who would like to explore the new presentation tool "Prezi." Prezi is a cloud-based presentation software that opens up a new world between whiteboards and slides.
