US Wave Energy Testing Set To Hit The Surf

This summer a milestone in the U.S. wave energy technology sector will be reached with the launch of the first ever test platform off the Oregon coast. The Ocean Sentinel, as the platform is known, will be made available to small firms who will be able to test their devices for the first time in open water. The platform is a project of the Northwest National Marine Renewable Energy Project (NNMREP), a joint effort between Oregon State University (OSU), Washington State University and the U.S. Department of Energy. Engineers Without Borders

Engineers Without Borders-USA is a non-profit humanitarian organization whose vision is a world in which all communities have the capacity to sustainably meet their basic human needs. Towards this vision, EWB-USA supports community-driven sustainable engineering projects worldwide, while creating transformative experiences and responsible leaders. This is a great opportunity for students of all majors to gain hands-on experience with leadership, problem solving, and teamwork. The OSU chapter will be hosting workshops this term on topics such as concrete mix design, water quality testing, and surveying. To become a part of the humanitarian efforts of Engineers Without Borders USA, please attend the OSU chapter’s Spring term weekly meetings, held every Thursday at 5pm in Strand Agriculture Hall, Room 211. Anita Borg Institute scholarship applications for the 2012 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing

The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology announced today that scholarship applications are now being accepted for the 2012 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference, which brings together women from all aspects of computer science and engineering. This year’s conference will be held October 3-6, 2012 in Baltimore, MD. The deadline for scholarship applications is May 15, 2012. Full scholarships cover conference registration, lodging for four nights, and travel expense reimbursement. Partial scholarships are also available. While the largest portion of scholarships are awarded to undergraduate and graduate students, junior faculty and members of non-governmental organizations and non-profits are also eligible to apply. United Launch Alliance’s summer intern program offers paid engineering and business positions designed to provide students with real work experience and exposure to ULA’s work environment. Interns have the opportunity to participate in the development, build and launch of a high-powered sport-rocket that is more than 20 feet tall. This voluntary activity is an integrated effort with Ball Aerospace interns, who build the payloads for the rocket. Details

Work with RF test engineers and process engineer to: Identify all opportunities on the RSA 5k and 6k spectrum analyzers to develop standardized adj and PV fixtures. United Streetcar in Clackamas, OR is looking to hire four to five more electrical engineers to assist us in designing and testing our vehicles. We are looking for a mix of recent graduates and people with experience in electric drive systems or higher degrees.
