Google donates $300K to OSU

Google Inc. has made another donation to support Oregon State University's open source lab. In the latest round, Google has given $300,000 to support the lab's effort to provide hosting services to the open source community. Including the latest gift, the technology giant has donated nearly $1.9 million to the lab. Portland Business Journal

Former Anoka resident wins engineering award

Former Anoka resident Patrick O’Donoghue and two other design team members won the People’s Choice Award at the Oregon State University 13th annual Engineering Expo for their Tesla coil and plasma speaker sound system presentation. O’Donoghue joined with students Ratanak So and Daniel Shattuck to make music using Tesla coils and plasma speakers for their senior project. ABC Newspapers (Minnesota)

Future Faculty Workshop

Rice University is hosting a workshop targeted to underrepresented graduate students and post-docs in Science, Engineering, and Psychology who are interested in pursuing an academic career. The Future Faculty Workshop, (formerly the Negotiating the Ideal Faculty Position Workshop), to be held September 10-11, 2012, is designed to provide participants hands-on experience to enhance their knowledge of and ability to find the right faculty position. In addition to the topics covered in panel discussions, the participants will get to spend a day with individual Rice departments and faculty members. Travel expenses (flight or mileage), meals, and lodging costs will be provided for the workshop participants. Applications are due July 30. Details

Play critical role in Intel’s industry leading next-generation process technology development by Fault Isolation and Failure Analysis (FI/FA) of fails in leading edge microprocessors to isolate defects induced either because of process development experiments or process excursion. Interface with Portland Technology Development (PTD) Yield Engineers to understand the distribution and relative importance of various microprocessor fails, perform FI/FA on fails to isolate defects on die using a variety of test and characterization techniques including laser and IR based probing as well as nanoprobing, and interface with PTD Failure Analysis Engineers to visualize the defects, so PTD Integration Engineers can drive the reduction of the defects in the process. Develop and enable high volume FI/FA of leading edge microprocessors by driving the insertion of next generation design for manufacturing and testing (DFx) circuitry into future microprocessor designs and related test content and collateral development.
