Professor Mike Bailey was named this year's recipient of Oregon State University Beaver Champion Award for outstanding effort and achievement of excellence, extra effort beyond that requested, and performance of the highest quality. It has intrinsic value in that it is a work of art produced by an outstanding Oregon artist, sculptor Kenneth M. Scott. The bronze casting is of a beaver in action in its own environment.

Ferne Simendinger, who served as the EECS graduate coordinator and retired in June, was given the Karel J. H. Murphy Professional Faculty Leadership and Service Award. This award recognizes a professional faculty member who has provided outstanding leadership and service throughout their career both within their Department and in programs and organizations across Oregon State University. The award also honors a legacy of providing ongoing, strategic, and progressive leadership, administrative support and service among Professional Faculty and other OSU employees.

Wave Power Anticipation Builds In Oregon
“If we could just grab a tiny piece of this energy,” I found myself thinking – an unoriginal thought if there ever was one. The idea of pinching off a little Pacific power has excited interest for years, and had in fact led to the development we were headed out to see: the Ocean Sentinel test pod and its temporary companion, the New Zealand born and Oregon schooled wave energy converter called WET-NZ. It’s a trek and far from home, but the experience at Oregon State is worth it
OSU is a more-than-worthy contender if your child can stand a few months of rainy weather. The campus is everything one imagines an idyllic college setting to be. There are expansive lawns, an abundant variety of huge trees and impressive buildings, old and young, that meld together imparting both a sense of tradition and of progress. With the aesthetics go the academics. OSU is a helpful place. The culture is supportive for students making the transition to life on their own, but it’s not a hand-holding institution. The rules are clear, the help, if you need it, is there and the rest is up to the student. Gilroy Dispatch
