CU-Boulder appoints new vice chancellor for research
University of Colorado Boulder Provost Russell L. Moore today announced the appointment of Terri Fiez, director of strategic initiatives and professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Oregon State University, as vice chancellor for research. Terri Fiez, onetime head of Oregon State University's engineering and computer science program, has landed a new job as vice chancellor for research at the University of Colorado Boulder. Oregon State announced plans to remove Fiez from her post in Corvallis in 2013, igniting a storm of protest from the state's tech industry and the university's faculty, who credited her with establishing strong ties between OSU and big Oregon tech companies. Big Data methods have become ubiquitous in life sciences research. To gain insights from massive biological datasets, computational proficiency in working with large networks is required. We will use examples from biology to learn how to: mathematically describe a network and its structure; computationally analyze the structure of a large network; infer the structure of a network using data-driven methods; use the software package igraph for network analysis. Accelerated Master's Platform
The School of EECS is pleased to announce a new Accelerated Master's Platform (AMP). This allows you to apply for a master's degree (MS/MEng in CS or ECE) while you are still in your junior year and matriculate into the master's program during the following fall term. With careful planning and taking some graduate classes in your senior year, you can complete the master's degree within one year after your bachelor's.
