Thursday, October 5-Wednesday, October 11. College of Engineering departmental open houses. Learn more about each engineering degree offered by the College of Engineering. See for yourself if a major is the right fit. Details.

Tuesday, October 10. Author Elizabeth Grossman talks about her new book, "High Tech Trash." Grossman issues a warning about the growing global issue of "e-waste" and in a section, "How to Recycle a Computer, Cell Phone, TV, or Other Digital Device," summarizes the resources now available to those with a cyber-conscience. Kelley Engineering Center, Room 1005, 12 -1 p.m., free and open to the public. Sack lunches welcome.

Tuesday, October 24, 10 - 11 AM, CH2M HILL Alumni Center. Career Exploration Hour @ the Fall University-Wide Career Fair. Designed specifically to provide first-year and other exploring students opportunities to learn about careers and career paths. Over 100 employers from a variety of industries will be at the fair, ready to talk with and answer questions about their organizations and careers, as well as to share how students can prepare themselves for the world of work. The Career Exploration Hour will provide a unique opportunity for exploring students to talk with employers and learn about majors/careers without the pressure of having to compete with students who are seeking jobs and internships at the fair. Chris Tasker, Developmental Engineering in EECS, is featured in OSU's Research Office newsletter. He is recognized as one of the people behind-the-scenes who help make OSU research and scholarship achievements possible. John Wager says Chris "is crucial to our success in transparent electronics. He makes so many contributions and has so many skills and extraordinary talents that it is hard to know where to begin." Read more.

The "Cypress University Alliance" features EECS students Paul Filitchkin and Steve Meliza. The two are working to integrate Cypress's PSoC® (programmable systems-on-chips) device into the TekBot. Adding the device to the TekBot will give it more versatility. Read the Cypress "Student Success" story.

Any person, group, student organization, or company creating significant, sustainable innovation in green technology is eligible. The prize is a $100,000 award for the best technology or policy innovation that encourages innovation in sustainable, green growth. The Army Research Laboratory Postdoctorate Fellowship Program provides opportunities to significantly increase the involvement of creative and highly trained scientists and engineers from academia in scientific and technical areas of interest and relevance to the Army. Details.

Higher Education Research Experiences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) for Faculty provides opportunities to participate in a broad range of science and engineering activities in basic sciences, energy, and the environment. Details.

In an effort to increase the presence of underrepresented minorities on the nation's college and university faculties, to enhance diversity on campuses, and to address the persisting effects of past discrimination, the Ford Foundation offers predoctoral fellowships, dissertation fellowships, and postdoctoral fellowships to members of six minority groups whose underrepresentation in the professoriate has been severe and long standing. The fellowship program identifies individuals of demonstrated ability and provides them with the opportunity to engage in graduate study leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Science (ScD) degree.
