OSU Alum, Nvidia Founder Tops Tech Execs at Playing Santa. For the second straight year, Nvidia chief executive Jen-Hsun Huang can lay claim to the unofficial title of Silicon Valley's not-so-secret Santa. Huang outspent five other executives who competed Friday in the "CEO Shopping Challenge," a 20-minute race at a Sunnyvale Target to scoop up gifts for needy Bay Area children. The executives were required to use their own money, not company funds, to buy gifts matching "wish'' requests. San Jose Mercury News

SCHOLARSHIPS/FELLOWSHIPS

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Undergraduate Scholarship and Graduate Fellowship Program provides opportunities for students to participate in an educational program intended to ensure a diverse and highly talented science and technology human resource base to meet the mission, goals, and objectives of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Details.

Marquette University established the Arnold L. Mitchem Dissertation Fellowship Program, intended to increase the presence of underrepresented ethnic groups in the professoriate by supporting doctoral candidates. Applicants must be U.S. citizens who are well underway in their dissertation writing and who belong to a racial or cultural group historically underrepresented in the U.S. professoriate. African American, Native American, and Hispanic American candidates are especially encouraged to apply. Details.

The Langley Aerospace Research Summer Scholars (LARSS) Program is managed for NASA by the Virginia Space Grant Consortium under the auspices of the National Institute of Aerospace. The LARSS program is a 10-week summer internship at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) that benefits rising undergraduate juniors and seniors, and graduate students who are pursuing degrees in aeronautical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, computer science, atmospheric science, astrophysics, physics, chemistry, or selected aerospace disciplines of interest to LaRC. Details.

The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers annually awards both Graduate and Undergraduate scholarships to encourage study in naval architecture, marine engineering, ocean engineering or marine industry related fields. All applicants must plan to study in the U.S. or Canada.

The Goddard Earth Sciences and Technology Center (GEST) and the NASA Goddard Sun-Earth Exploration Division are seeking highly qualified Ph.D. scientists for collaboration in scientific research relating to the observation, analysis and modeling of physical processes within the Sun-Earth system, and to relevant global change issues on the Earth. Selected candidates will be offered appointments as Visiting Fellows to pursue independent research in collaboration with scientists in the Laboratories within the Sun-Earth Exploration Division, and will have full access to NASA computing facilities and other resources at either the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD or at the Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York, NY. ENGINEERING FIELD REPRESENTATIVE, Tillamook PUD. This Engineering Field Representative position requires detailed experience designing overhead and underground electrical distribution facilities with an emphasis on large subdivisions and commercial/industrial design. This employee will work closely with customers, contractors, developers and other PUD personnel to ensure that District facilities are properly installed, and must have good communication skills while working in a team environment. Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) 2007 Space Grant Internship Program. An opportunity for over 100 qualified students to participate in a ten-week summer internship program at JPL for Summer 2007. HELP WANTED FOR SHORT-TERM MS ACCESS PROJECT. Assistance with small inventory / ordering application in MS Access. Project already designed (though not carved in stone). Need help with things like synchronizing combo boxes with choices available in 2nd box based on selection in 1st box; ensuring that stock levels are updated appropriately from online orders; ensuring that re-order levels are flagged; enabling migration of finished project to web-based platform; etc. Details.
