SCHOLARSHIPS/FELLOWSHIPS

Attention CS and ECE women: Vanguard has established a scholarship program to assist female students entering their senior year of college who are majoring in computer science, computer engineering, web design, or related technical engineering disciplines. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at a select accredited four-year institution of the student’s choice. To apply, visit http://www.jobster.com/outreach/details?i=AYHWy49N4A==. And, if you do apply, please also let Dr. Margaret Burnett know -- she is trying to assist NCWIT (the people who helped Vanguard decide to do this) to keep track of the applications they are generating.

The Center for Defense Information, a nonpartisan, nonprofit research think tank, and a divsion of the World Security Institute based in Washington, D.C., offers full-time paid internships in research. The World Security Institute's other divisions offer internships in television, translation/editing, and computers/web editing. Internships are open to recent graduates, graduate students, and highly qualified undergraduates with a strong interest in military policy, national security, foreign affairs, and related public policy issues who are willing to undertake some small administrative tasks. Details.

The American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) - the organization to which Helen Keller devoted her life - is a national nonprofit whose mission is to ensure that the ten million Americans who are blind or visually impaired enjoy the same rights and opportunities as other citizens. The Paul and Ellen Ruckes Scholarship provides one (1) scholarship of $1,000 to an undergraduate or graduate student studying in the field of engineering or in computer, physical, or life sciences. Electro Standards Laboratories, ELECTRICAL ENGINEER. BS, MS, or PhD with background in electric induction motor controls, Simulink and Matlab simulation tools, power electronics and embedded DSP hardware systems. Electro Standards Lab is involved in a variety of leading-edge projects including sensorless motor controls, long linear motors, and DSP-based embedded motor and power electronics control systems. The Reynolds School district is looking to enhance its web communication to parents through a new and improved website. In addition to the general requirements of a dynamic and interactive website, Reynolds would require the following: Ability to work with Apache Web Server v 1.3 and up; fluency in PHP4 & 5; capability of developing and incorporating Flash, JAVA and Shockwave-based content as well as podcasting; inclusion of RSS. Details.

The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) is administering the Naval Research Enterprise Intern Program (NREIP) sponsored by the Office of Naval Research (ONR). NREIP is a ten week summer research opportunity for undergraduate Juniors & Seniors, and Graduate students, under the guidance of a mentor, at a participating Navy Laboratory. The application is currently open and must be completed by January 12, 2007. Details.
