John F. Wager (Professor, School of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science) will present the OSU 2006 Sigma Xi Researcher of the Year lecture on the topic of "Transparent electronics" on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at 3:00 PM in the Kelley Engineering Building, Rm 1001. The award recognizes Professor Wager's contributions to the development of transparent electronics, thin-film electroluminescent displays and compound semiconductor transistors. The OSU chapter of Sigma Xi currently includes about 175 active members, and is actively recruiting new student and faculty members. The Researcher of the Year Award is given annually to a member of the OSU research community that has contributed significantly to the advancement of his/her field of study.

The OSU Alumni Association (OSUAA) and the OSUAA National Capital Area Chapter created the National Capital Leadership Award as a mechanism to assist OSU students who are eager to experience life in our Nation's capital. The ideal student applicant will intern in a congressional or judicial office, government agency, non-profit organization or association, or private organization in the Washington, D.C., area. 2007 CRITICAL LANGUAGE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INTENSIVE SUMMER INSTITUTES. The United States Department of State and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) are pleased to announce the availability of scholarships for intensive overseas study in the critical need foreign languages of Arabic, Bangla/Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, and Urdu for Summer 2007. As part of the National Security Language Initiative (NSLI), a U.S. government interagency effort to expand dramatically the number of Americans studying and mastering critical need foreign languages, the Department of State Critical Language Scholarships will provide funding for U.S. citizen undergraduate, Master’s and Ph.D. students to participate in beginning, intermediate and/or advanced level summer language programs at American Overseas Research Centers and affiliated partners. Winter Wonderings http://oregonstate.edu/precollege/winter/ needs two electrical engineering students to volunteer to help with a lab on electrical circuits on 2/24/07 or 3/3/07 or 3/10/07 from 8:45 am - 2 pm. You would be assisting the teachers and not teaching the class. The students are 8 - 10 year old children. You do not need to be available all of those days, however, we do prefer on the day that you do come, that you could stay from 8:45 am ­ 2 pm. "Health Care and Social Justice" Website Developer. Seeking an individual with an interest in health care and social justice to help develop a website covering this important area. With over 15 years experience developing curricula, teaching, publishing and lecturing in this field, I recognize the need for such a site that would serve as a location for posting Powerpoint presentations on critical issues, as well as links to published papers and to other organizations and individuals active in health care and social justice. The site would also offer a discussion forum for students, teachers, professionals, and other activists. Details.

Software Engineering Intern. Would you like to get valuable, real world experience in software engineering? Corvallis-based Universal Telecom is looking for an intern to assist in developing an exciting new software platform. This intern will assist with the software design, construction, release and QA processes for a peer-to-peer software project. This internship will be from February through June, 2007 for 12-20 hours per week. Details.

We are looking for a student to implement a 'telepresence' component for a study in the Center for Healthy Aging Research, College of Health and Human Sciences. The project requires the design and implementation of a mechanism for notifying a person in one location that a person in another location is present. The student will also be responsible for configuring machines in each office for use as a simple video communication device. Details.

Applications Engineer
Work with senior Applications Engineers to define and develop hardware and software solutions to evaluate analog and mixed-signal circuits. Projects typically involve a strong hands-on component, including the development of lab setups and the taking of measurements to carry out the evaluations. Other activities include creating simulation models, helping write application notes, and developing reference designs.

CAD Engineer
The intern will work with software tools to perform a range of tasks, including circuit modeling and simulation, verification, and final validation for IC designs in a variety of the company’s silicon processes. Background in circuit design and semiconductor device physics is needed, and familiarity with current EDA tools is preferred.

Design Engineer
The intern will be responsible for the design of analog and/or mixed-signal circuits. Projects typically involve circuit simulation, IC layout, and silicon characterization. Background in analog circuit design, semiconductor device physics, Cadence design tools, IC layout, and laboratory test equipment is preferred.

Device / Process Integration Engineer
Work with senior Device and Integration engineers to develop and qualify a range of new process technologies for the company, including Bipolar, BiCMOS, CMOS, and DMOS. Projects can include device-level modeling and electrical characterization work, as well as bench test validation to debug new process issues.

Product Engineer
The intern will be responsible for helping release new products and sustain existing products in manufacturing. Projects typically involve the coordination of device tapeout, overseeing start of prototype lots, arranging for sample unit assembly, device failure analysis, device characterization, statistical determination of datasheet limits, yield study analysis, and release to manufacturing.

Systems Development Engineer
Help to define requirements for customer systems and/or prepare studies and analyze existing systems. Projects typically involve determining system specifications, input/ output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Specific job assignments may place particular emphasis on either hardware or software systems.

Test Development Engineer
Work with a new product development team to develop test solutions for a variety of analog circuits/devices and for the release of those systems to manufacturing. Projects typically include PCB design, test software development, test system debug, and data analysis. Background in analog circuits and C++ programming skills is required.

GemStone Systems is seeking a motivated, MS Computer Science graduate to work as a Quality Engineer on the Enterprise Data Fabric engineering team. Design, development, and implementation of complex functional, performance, and scalability tests and test frameworks in Java. Run tests, analyze problems and performance, and identify and resolve shortcomings. Work on a small team (4-10) engineers on a daily basis, using Agile engineering practices. Details.

Test Engineer, Intel. The Consumer Electronics Group (CEG) is chartered to deliver cutting edge silicon tailored to the consumer electronics market. CEG, which is part of Digital Home Group, focuses on several key market segments, including set-top box, media center and digital television.
