Toward 2020: Addressing Tomorrow's Problems Today (an Austin Entrepreneurship Program event). May 3, 2007, The Governor Hotel, Portland, Oregon. Keynote speakers and panelists will address the role of creativity and innovation from several perspectives: private industry, government, and education. Plan to attend the second annual Women in Aviation Careers Conference on Saturday April 14, 2007 at the Flight Technology Center at the Eugene Airport! This free three-part conference will focus on women in aviation and the future of the space industry. Guests include former WASPS, 99’s, and Rosie the Riveters as well as women involved in contemporary aviation. An open forum will provide opportunities for photos and one-on-one discussions with guests. Advance registration is not required. Details.

Helping Machines Learn: Xiaoli Fern helps computers mine data and learn on the fly
Oregon State University researchers spend thousands of hours in the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest studying many aspects of the environment and logging that data. Yet, interpretation of all that data can be difficult. That’s where Xiaoli Fern comes in. OSU news release

Tripod Data Systems. The software engineer will work with teams of outstanding software developers on various projects and lead a small team of engineers when needed. The main responsibilities will be design and implement advanced mapping and graphic applications for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Geodetic Survey and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) running on handheld or other data collection platforms and positioning devices. Advanced Navigation and Positioning provides navigation aids for landing aircraft into airports surrounded by hills or other terrain features that preclude the use of traditional landing systems. Electrical Engineering Intern: This person will be responsible for taking a previously modeled communications system in Matlab and implementing it in a DSP-based transceiver. This person will work closely with hardware and software design engineers. Details.

Advanced Navigation and Positioning provides navigation aids for landing aircraft into airports surrounded by hills or other terrain features that preclude the use of traditional landing systems. Software Engineering Intern: This person will be responsible for developing software for tools that support the development and analysis of data for the system. The tools will be primarily coded in C++. The ideal candidate will have had classes in C++ and would be familiar with developing MFC applications. Details.

EPA Intern Program (EIP) Class of 2007 Vacancy Information. The EIP is a full-time, professional, entry-level employment and career development program at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. For 2007, we plan to hire approximately thirty EIP Employees as entry-level, professional Environmental Protection Specialists, Environmental Scientists, and Biologists. Learning Strategist. The Academic Success Center and Academic Services for Student Athletes need to fill academic coaching positions for spring term. These Learning Strategists will provide intensive academic coaching for at-risk students. The Learning Strategists will provide assistance with time management and organization, reading and note taking and, in addition, will work intensively with one or two students, three to four times per week.
