2007 UCSD Data Mining Contest
The UCSD Data Mining Contest offers students a chance to test their data mining skill on a real-world data set. The contest runs from May 18 through July 18. This year's contest focuses on two Real Estate tasks: Refinance Prediction: Predict the probability that a residence will be refinanced; Sale Price Prediction: Predict the sale price of properties that have sold in the 2005-2006 period. There are many reasons to participate:

    • Practical experience is the best way to learn
    • The winner of each contest/division will receive prize money — a total $4000 is up for grabs
    • Success in the competition looks great on a resume (graduate admissions, jobs, fellowships)

All undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral researchers studying full-time at an accredited US college or university may enter and compete for prizes. See http://mill.ucsd.edu for details.

We are looking for undergraduate (junior or higher) or graduate students who will be participating in a usability study conducted by student and faculty researchers in Computer Science Department at Oregon State University. The goal of this study is to understand how people learn about an open source project that is new to them. Details.

Also, Aaron mentioned that Rentrak is looking to hire talented graduates. So, bring a resume if you are graduating soon.

Following the talk the ACM officer elections will be held. Positions are open to any computer science student at Oregon State University. The ACM is responsible for events like the senior dinner, reception, EECS graduation, and guest speakers.

We look forward to seeing you there!
