Students aim for One Laptop Per Child. Michael Burns and Justin Gallardo used to stand in left field during their Keizer Little League games and talk computer programming. Those youthful software projects were early indicators of some future success to come, something neither of them had given a thought to a year ago. Salem Statesman Journal

Intel needs more homegrown talent. We should be taking seriously and we should be taking to heart the words of Intel communications manager Bill MacKenzie. The former newsman, speaking at a Chamber of Commerce luncheon Wednesday in Albany, said that Intel no longer can find enough qualified employees in Oregon. Corvallis Gazette-Times

OSU Engineering on the rise. The renovation of Apperson Hall is exciting, but it's a part of a bigger picture of good news for Oregon State University's College of Engineering, which is trying to become one of the top 25 engineering schools in the country. Last week, the Oregon Legislature increased funding for Engineering and Technology Industry Council-directed programs at colleges and universities by $15 million to $37 million. This is an excellent opportunity for a person who thrives on algorithmic complexities and extension of object-oriented designs to meet scientific objectives. An optimal candidate will be capable with C# as well as managed and unmanaged C++ under .NET 2.0. Use of C++ STL containers and algorithms is extensive in the simulator engine.
