IN THE NEWS
---------------------------------------------------

Officials buoyed by mooring placement. A team of researchers from Oregon State University dropped an anchor from the stern of R/V Pacific Storm at about noon Thursday in an area of ocean about two miles out from Yaquina Head lighthouse. The anchor will serve as a mooring system for a wave energy buoy developed by OSU scientists to conduct small scale wave energy testing. Researchers will return to deploy the test buoy within the next few weeks. Newport News-Times

Innovators: A Girl Who Loves Buoys. IF YOU'RE GOING TO TAP THE WATERS off the ruggedly beautiful Oregon coast for electricity, you'd want the effort spearheaded by someone who appreciates the ocean. A surfer or scuba diver, perhaps. Or a competitive swimmer. Someone who named her daughter after the Hawaiian word for dolphin--now that would be comforting. You'd want Annette von Jouanne, an electrical engineering professor at Oregon State University. Sierra Club
