Cyberforest Unplugged: OSU undergrad team designs wireless sensor system. The science of mountain airsheds requires a strong back as well as a sharp mind — especially when you’re lugging a 65-pound golf-cart battery in your pack. An interdisciplinary team of OSU students spent 10 weeks this summer scaling the steep slopes of H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest to enable researchers to unplug their high-tech gear — the sensors they use to study the ebb and flow of carbon-laden air through old-growth and second-growth landscapes. SCHOLARSHIPS/FELLOWSHIPS

Tau Beta Pi Fellowships. The Fellowship Program is Tau Beta Pi's single most important project for the advancement of engineering education and the profession. These fellowships have been kept as free of restrictions as possible, in order to accommodate students with original ideas. Tau Beta Pi fellows are free to do graduate work in any field that will enable them to contribute to the engineering profession. The only specific duty of awardees is to write a report at the completion of the fellowship year summarizing their work. Details.

The Tau Beta Pi Association Scholarship Program was established in 1998 to advance engineering education and the profession. The Tau Beta Pi Scholarship Program The administration of these scholarships has been kept as free of restriction as possible, in order to accommodate students. However, because Tau Beta Pi is the engineering honor society, recipients are expected ultimately to advance the interest of the engineering profession. Details.

Electrical Engineer, ARES Corporation. Analysis and design of electrical systems for new plants, facilities, and equipment and modification of existing electrical systems. Systems include low voltage power distribution, lighting, communications, fire alarm, and medium voltage site electrical distribution systems. Individual will conduct field surveys and walk downs and develop and review design media including drawings, short circuit and arc flash analyses, equipment specification and selection, and equipment and system layouts. Sun Microsystems has a campus ambassador position open to any current upper level undergrad or grad student. The Sun Campus Ambassador will build communities around Sun's free and open source platforms (OpenSolaris, Open SPARC and Java) and developer tools among Academic Developers (students, faculty and researchers) at Oregon State University.The Sun Campus Ambassador is expected to become proficient on Sun's open technologies, including OpenSolaris, Java, Netbeans, and Sun Studio.
