The Willamette Valley Section of the Society of Women Engineers is sponsoring a banquet to celebrate Engineers Week. For over 50 years, Engineers Week has helped to promote awareness of the engineering profession and to encourage young people to consider a career in engineering. In celebration of this event, we would like to invite faculty, staff and students from the College of Engineering to attend this banquet. The banquet will be held Monday, February 25, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at the CH2M Hill Alumni Center on the Oregon State University Campus in Corvallis, Oregon. SCHOLARSHIPS/FELLOWSHIPS

The NASA Aeronautics Scholarship Program is now being administered by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). It is expected that approximately 20 two-year undergraduate, and 5 three-year graduate scholarships will be awarded annually to students pursuing aeronautical engineering and related fields. Total allocated award amounts are up to $40,000 for undergraduates and up to $125,000 for graduates. These funds will go towards tuition and related costs, as well as to provide paid summer internship opportunities at NASA research center. Competitive applicants interested in this amazing opportunity should begin completing application materials immediately. A completed application will consist of profile information, academic background (including transcripts), a resume, an essay for undergraduates, a proposal for graduates, letters of recommendations, and any test scores, such as SATs and GREs, when appropriate. Completed applications will be collected electronically from February 22nd through March 17th, 2008. The SWE Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to women admitted to accredited baccalaureate or graduate programs, in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science. An online application for Undergraduate/Graduate students for the 2008-2009 school year is now available. (You can apply if you will be a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student in the Fall.) The prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Postdoctoral Fellowship (LKY PDF) was established in 1991 under the Lee Kuan Yew Endowment Fund. Applications are invited from young candidates who have obtained their degrees in the last few years and with excellent academic records and research potential for this prestigious research fellowship. It will be held concurrently with the candidate's appointment as a research staff in the School working on any of the following identified research areas: engineering; biological sciences, computer engineering, civil & environmental engineering, electrical & electronic engineering, materials science & engineering, or natural sciences. The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities at NASA Centers, headquarters, and other facilities to highly talented national and international individuals who have completed their doctorate degree. APPLICANT INFORMATION: Applicants must have completed their doctorate degree or equivalent before beginning the fellowship; and U.S. citizenship, Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) status, Employment Authorization Document (EAD) with pending LPR status, or J-1 Visa status as a Research Scholar before beginning the fellowship. Educational Testing Service, Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. Up to three fellows will be selected to conduct independent research in Princeton, New Jersey, in one of the following areas: psychology; education; teaching; learning; literacy; statistics; computer science; educational technology; minority issues; and testing issues, including new forms of assessment and alternate forms of assessment for special populations. The goals of the program are to provide research opportunities to individuals who hold a doctorate in the fields indicated above and to increase the number of women and underrepresented minority professionals conducting research in educational measurement and related fields. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Space Flight Center, Atmospheres and the Hydrospheric and Biospheric Sciences Laboratory Summer Institute. The Summer Institute on Atmospheric, Biospheric, and Hydrospheric Sciences (June 9 - August 15, 2008) is sponsored by the Earth Sciences Division of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Maryland. This program is designed to introduce undergraduate students majoring in all areas of the physical sciences to research opportunities in the atmospheric, biospheric, hydrospheric, and solar and space plasma sciences, both theoretical and experimental.
