The Memorial Union Program Council is excited to announce the return of the OSU Men's Leadership Conference to be held on February 23, 2008. This conference will provide a variety of learning experiences designed to motivate male students in both their academic pursuits and personal lives beyond the classroom. The conference will consist of several speakers, workshops, and dinner. The keynote speaker is OSU head football coach Mike Riley. Graduate and undergraduate men who are interested in attending this event should sign up at the front desk of the EECS office, 1148 Kelley Engineering Center no later than February 15. The Willamette Valley Section of the Society of Women Engineers is sponsoring a banquet to celebrate Engineers Week. For over 50 years, Engineers Week has helped to promote awareness of the engineering profession and to encourage young people to consider a career in engineering. In celebration of this event, we would like to invite faculty, staff and students from the College of Engineering to attend this banquet. (1) Applicants must be juniors, seniors or graduate students with a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) GPA who are enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate course of study at an accredited four-year college or university. (2) Applicants must be students with an equivalent GPA at an accredited vocational technical school or program. All applicants must be U.S. Citizens or legal residents. Merwin Scholarship to recognize and reward active leaders in Computer Society student branch chapters who show promise in their academic and professional efforts. Up to ten scholarships of $4,000 each are available, for one academic year. Graduate students, juniors, and seniors in electrical or computer engineering, computer science, or a well-defined computer-related field of engineering who are active members of a Computer Society student branch chapter are eligible. Details The IEEE Computer Society is the largest of 36 technical societies of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). It offers the Lance Stafford Larson Student Scholarship to encourage students to develop excellence in their communication skills and motivate them toward achievement in the field of computer science. This award is presented for the best student paper. Only papers concerning computer-related subjects are eligible. Details The Executive Council of Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE) encourages academic excellence for students in the computing discipline. The UPE initiated this award with the IEEE Computer Society, as the largest association of computer professionals, to raise the importance of academic achievement in our future computer professionals.
