OSU Honors Outstanding Engineering Alumni. The College of Engineering at Oregon State University honored 37 of its most distinguished alumni today during the tenth annual Oregon Stater Awards, an event that recognizes OSU engineers and their career contributions to society. The annual ceremony inducts OSU engineering alumni into three different groups based on the length of their careers and accomplishments: the Engineering Hall of Fame, the Academy of Distinguished Engineers and the Council of Outstanding Early Career Engineers. The Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation is an independent Federal government agency established by Congress to "encourage and support research, study and labor designed to produce new discoveries in all fields of endeavor for the benefit of mankind." The Homeland Security Award is designed to encourage and promote "cutting edge" innovation in the homeland security area to provide incentive for continuing research. For judging purposes, nominations may be submitted in the following five 2008 fields: biological, radiological, nuclear, chemical and explosive attacks; border security and transportation security; emergency responses to natural and man-made disasters; cyber security and information sharing; and other.
