Making It on Their Own
Margaret M. Burnett, a professor of computer science at Oregon State University, defines end user developers as “end users who create or customize some kind of software so that it works on unanticipated inputs.” Burnett says more end users than ever are developing software, and the data that those end user programs touch is becoming mission-critical. The Business Clubs, ACM and LUG invite you to a Pizza seminar, "Crash: How a Billion Little Collisions Define Everything," hosted by Jack Aboutboul from RedHat @ 5:30 on April 14 in KEC 1001. Jack is the "godfather" of the Fedora Ambassadors and has previously worked on Gentoo and created the groundbreaking LiveContent distribution. He is Red Hat's Community Engineer and the founder of the Jack Aboutboul Foundation, created to help "build bridges between open technology, open content, art and education in a directed effort to enrich the lives of people and children worldwide."

Columbia Energy is soliciting resumes for the position of Electrical Engineer at its Richland Washington office. The minimum requirements for this position are a BS, or MS, degree in Electrical Engineering with 0 to 5 years experience in a technical work environment. Additional military, or commercial technical experience, and/or EIT registration in the state of Washington are considered a plus. This position may require unescorted access to US Government facilities, therefore US citizenship, and ability to pass a security background check is mandatory. Dr. Alan Fern is looking to hire an undergraduate student to work on a research project in the area of computer vision. The prospective student would be working as part of the Digital Scout Project (http://eecs.oregonstate.edu/football) where the objective is to use computer vision to automatically annotate/interpret sports video, in this case video of OSU football games. The ideal candidate should have programming experience, ideally in the C language, a good mathematics background, and be eager to learn new concepts. Details
