Here Comes the Sun. When OSU researchers first announced they had created a transparent transistor, John Wager said it was too early to tell what practical applications might arise from it. Colleges Battle It Out in Mars Rover Competition [Slide Show]. The 2nd annual University Rover Challenge that pitted seven schools' rovers against each other wrapped in early June. The contest was designed to encourage aspiring engineers and showcase their ingenuity in developing robotic vehicles for use on the Red Planet someday. Scientific American

Oregon State Wins 2008 Mars Rover Challenge. OSU won the second annual University Rover Challenge, held by the Mars Society. The university defeated defending URC champions from the University of Nevada, Reno at the Mars Desert Research Station in Utah. A new team from York University of Toronto ranked third. Autodesk, Inc, Software Developer Intern Opportunity. In order to simplify ongoing maintenance of icons used in Inventor and to enable easy and quick update of icons, we are planning to restructure code to ensure all occurrences of an image point to the same icon file on disk. As part of this effort: we will remove icons that are no longer used, standardize naming convention for icons and relocate all icons to modular folder structures. This task will initially require inspection of code to understand how icons are used by various dialogs in Inventor. As the work progresses, tasks will require collaboration with Product Design, SWD and QA teams. Details

Responsibilities for this position include developing enhancements to our existing code base which is written in C++. We seek undergraduate students to participate in internships in conjunction with a project funded by the National Science Foundation entitled: "A Wireless Network of Battery-Free Sensors for Atmosphere-Biosphere Studies in Complex Environments.” The students will assist with the overall project and will conduct independent studies over a 10-week period during the summer of 2008. The focus of student research is flexible, but will ideally link terrestrial sensor technology with ecosystem science. Circuit Designer, Intel. You will be responsible for design and implementation of several custom macros in both Input/Output drivers/receivers (IO) and core Phase-Lock-Loops (PLL), thermal sensor. This includes, but not limited to, sense amp design, charge pumps, voltage-controlled oscillators tuning, voltage regulators, and delay compensators. In addition, generic digital circuits such as counters, dividers, and control logic may be included.
