SCHOLARSHIPS/FELLOWSHIPS

PhD Scholarship in Cochlear Signal Detection and Modelling. Applications are invited for a 3-year PhD scholarship to apply advanced signal processing methods to noninvasive detection of the cochlear microphonic signal from the human ear. Project Background: There are many electrical signals generated in the human ear in response to sounds reaching the ear. One of these, called the cochlear microphonic (CM), is directly related to the pressure striking the eardrum. The traditional method of acquiring this signal requires piecing of the eardrum, and the signal is not widely used or studied. The successful applicant will be involved a project for devising methods to recover the CM signal in a non-invasive manner. The ability to extract the CM has the potential to enable many powerful new diagnostic tests, as well as considerably enhancing our understanding of the human perception of sound. Details

The objectives of the Link Foundation Fellowship Program are to foster advanced-level study in simulation and training research; to enhance and expand the theoretical and practical knowledge of how to train the operators and users of complex systems and how to simulate the real-world environments in which they function; and to disseminate the results of that research through lectures, seminars, and publications. The applicant should be working full-time towards a degree in an established doctoral program at a U.S. or Canadian university. Preference will be shown to proposals dealing directly with simulation and training and which explore ideas not yet fully tested. Details
