Nissan Electric Car Prototype coming to OSU
On Wednesday April 8th, representatives from Nissan will be showing a prototype of the plug in electric vehicle they will be deploying in Oregon beginning October 2010. The vehicle represents an important step toward alternative modes of transportation that significantly reduce green house gas emissions and the type of technology advancement that you could be involved in as a future engineer. The vehicle will be on display from 3:30 to 6:00 pm on the plaza behind the Kelley Engineering Center. Check it out!

The OSU Women's Center is sponsoring a week of events celebrating pioneering women in the field of computer science. "Mothers of Computers" features five days of events focused on the history of women and computers. The following is a list of events:
- April 6: "When Computers Were Human" presented by Dr. Alan Grier. 5 to 6 p.m. at the Women's Center
- April 7: "Women in Computer Science" presented by Chris Wallace. 5 to 6 p.m. at the Women's Center
- April 8: "Geek is Chic" A Q&A Tutorial for ladies by ladies! Bring your laptop! 4 to 5 p.m. at Kelley 1001
- April 9: "Evening With Betty Jean Bartik" One of the first female computer programmers. 4 to 5 p.m. at the Women's Center
- April 10: "Ice Cream Social" Free! Featured speaker Elle Bublitz. 4 to 6 p.m. at the Women's Center

Deadline April 7, 2009. The Gilman International Scholarship Program provides awards of up to $5,000 for U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad for up to one academic year. The program aims to diversify the kinds of student who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go. The program serves students who have been under-represented in study abroad which includes but is not limited to: students with high financial need, community college students, students in under-represented fields such as the sciences and engineering, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds, students attending minority-serving institutions, and students with disabilities. NSF Sponsored Undergraduate Summer 2009 Research Opportunity
What: Spend the summer doing ground-breaking research on thin film materials, thin film transistors for transparent electronics, and nanomaterials in the fun-loving Conley Group.
When: 40 hours / week starting in the summer, possibility of 8-10 hours a week during spring term, with potential extension of up to 10 hours a week through 2009-2010 school year.
Pay: Did I mention that you get paid? $9/hour (possibly more depending on budget)
Who: Oregon State University EE, ChemE, or physics, juniors and sophomores with strong interest in materials science, nanotechnology, and experimental work. Preference will be given to hard working students who have taken ECE 317 (or ENGR 321) and ECE 418 and to outstanding sophomores. Women and minorities encouraged to apply. Guys too. Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.
