Carlos Jensen

Assistant Professor
Computer Science
Biography:

Carlos Jensen is currently an assistant professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Oregon State University (OSU). He received his BS. degree in Computer Science from the State University of New York (SUNY) Brockport, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2005, where he was a member of the Graphics, Visualization and Usability Center (GVU).

His areas of research are in Usable Privacy and Security (HCISec), with particular focus on making online decisions about privacy and security understandable and meaningful to users. As part of this work we examine policies and business practices currently in use, as well as the technologies available and their implications, and users’ understanding and concerns. Our main research project in this area; iWatch, tracks website privacy practices, and how your online information spreads online.

An emerging area of research is in the usability aspects of Open Source systems and Open Source Development. More specifically, we are interested in studying the barriers for entry into Open Source, and finding ways we can get more people, including students, involved in Open Source. This has led to the development of a custom community of code called Beaversource for OSU students, and a custom Linux handheld platform.

Research Interests:

Human-Computer Interaction, Usability Engineering, End-user software engineering, Usable Privacy and Security
