New degree concept opens computer science career opportunities

Oregon State University is beginning one of the only programs of its type in the nation, an online bachelor’s degree in computer science that will allow a student who already has any type of accredited bachelor’s degree to gain a second, more highly sought degree in only 12 months. Hitachi Consulting’s Future Leaders Summit

The Inspiration Consulting Summit (June 24 – 29, Denver, CO) enables undergraduate students to be introduced to various Hitachi Consulting career options, and practice the leadership and team working skills that are invaluable in your university career. 2012 COMPUTER SECURITY DAY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF OREGON

Friday, April 20, John E. Jaqua Auditorium, University of Oregon. The range of topics will be broad and diverse, ranging from examining future trends in computer security, to understanding cybersecurity within the federal government, to exciting new research in authentication mechanisms and securing systems and data. There will be plenty of opportunity to engage with the speakers and with each other. Additionally, there will be a student poster session during the catered lunch, and an opportunity to hear from our faculty at the University of Oregon about groundbreaking new work taking place here. Admission is free, but registration in advance is required and space may be limited. Details

Eat a Burrito at Qdoba and raise money for the SWE Scholarship!

Volunteer at the 2012 Engineering Expo

This year the Engineering Expo is happening on Friday, May 18th. The College of Engineering needs student and staff volunteers to help out on May 17th and May 18th with setting-up and tearing-down, giving guided tours and managing info booths. Intel Ultimate Engineering Experience

Intel is pleased to announce a special program being launched during the Summer of 2012 geared to support undergraduates exploring engineering education. IUEE is a six-week, hands-on, technical engineering experience packed with cool and exciting activities to show you the impact engineering has in the world and how far a career in engineering can take you. You will build a robot, develop an app, and act like entrepreneurs to create and develop solutions to improve people’s lives. There will be competitions with cool prizes to the winning teams. This exciting opportunity is one you won’t want to miss! You and 60 other local freshman and sophomore students are in for one awesome experience. Upon completion of the program, you will earn up to $2,000 (tax protected) towards your tuition/books for next term! You will also receive a $1,000 (tax protected) stipend at the beginning of the program to offset some of the costs associated with transportation, meals, etc. Registration Deadline: April 20, 2012. Anita Borg Institute opens scholarship applications for the 2012 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing

The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology announced today that scholarship applications are now being accepted for the  2012  Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference, which brings together women from all aspects of computer science and engineering. This year’s conference will be held October 3-6, 2012 in Baltimore, MD. The deadline for scholarship applications is May 15, 2012. Full scholarships cover conference registration, lodging for four nights, and travel expense reimbursement. Partial scholarships are also available. While the largest portion of scholarships are awarded to undergraduate and graduate students, junior faculty and members of non-governmental organizations and non-profits are also eligible to apply. Linn County General Services is looking for Energy Management Interns starting now through Spring 2012. Work with Energy Star on utility tracking and utilities Energy Star programs to the County’s benefit. Determine the score on each building.
