Attention COE Sophomores!

The Fall 2013 professional school admission application will be opening in early April. Linked below are the frequently asked questions regarding professional school admission. It is ESSENTIAL that you review these policies and processes so you are ready to apply and registered for the appropriate courses over spring and, if needed, summer of this year.

Please note two significant changes from last year’s process:

  • You are only allowed to have two summer courses (8 credits) in process when you apply We will assume “C” grades in these summer courses when computing your admission pre-core GPA
  • You MUST have all coursework complete prior to fall of 2013. No “in progress” courses will be allowed in the fall

WS 525 Gender & Technology, online course spring 2013
Be an Activist! Make a Difference!
While researching historical and cultural contributions and trends of women in technology fields, this project-based course will guide you through the planning and implementation of an activism project to promote the development and use of technology to women and girls around the globe. In just 10 weeks, you'll: learn about biases in technology, education, and industry; discuss important readings and media online; research, plan, and write about an activism project; setup and use a professional web site; use a variety of business applications. Microsoft launches two competitions for women
The first award is the Women's Empowerment Award, established in partnership with UN Women, which will be given to two student teams of any gender that create projects that best address issues impacting women globally. First prize is $12,000 and second prize is $8,000. The second is the Women's Athletics App Challenge, in partnership with the Seattle Storm women's basketball team, aimed at female developers, innovators and entrepreneurs who create software related to sports, health or fitness. The winning team will receive $1,000 for each team member. Portland Business Journal

Atlanta to host an International Space Apps Challenge
Are you good at developing “mobile applications, software, hardware, data visualization and platform solutions that could contribute to space exploration missions and help improve life on Earth”? If so, NASA wants to meet you. NASA and other government agencies will host the second International Space Apps Challenge April 20-21. Atlanta will be the site for one of the events. Registration opens March 1. Details

SCHOLARSHIPS/FELLOWSHIPS

The Corvallis Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is offering the following scholarship for the academic year 2013/2014. A one-time scholarship of $1,000 to a non-traditional woman student (25 years or older). She must reside in Linn or Benton County. Application deadline: April 5, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. Details

Zonta 2013-2014 Rusnak Scholarship. Zonta Service Foundation of Corvallis is accepting applications for its 2013-2014 Rusnak Scholarship. This $2700 scholarship is reserved for a female student focused on a career in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math, and offers $900 per quarter to help cover tuition, fees, books, and supplies charged to a recipient's account at either Linn Benton Community College or Oregon State University. Application deadline: March 26, 2013. Details

Analog Electrical Design, Wavelength References, Inc. Small but established firm looking for an electrical engineer to assist with product development and design as well as the assembly and maintenance of existing products. Primary product that needs support now is a frequency-stabilized laser using a laser diode with a gas cell as a frequency discriminator.
