Complexity of NASA Robot Competition Challenges 17 Teams

Inpria raises another $1.5 million for new semiconductor production technology
Oregon startups typically start with small, local investors, and then hit up the big players once they've gained some traction. Corvallis startup Inpria Corp. has done the reverse. The company announced Thursday that it's raised $1.45 million from the Oregon Angel Fund, a collection of local investors backing early-stage startups. Advanced Materials Developer Inpria raises $1.45M from Oregon Angel Fund
Inpria Corporation, a developer of high-resolution photoresists, announced today that it has received additional equity investment and commitments totaling $1.45 million. Inpria is commercializing a portfolio of photo-condensed molecular oxides – chemical materials designed to extend Moore’s Law, the drumbeat that has characterized progress in the semiconductor industry for almost 50 years. Ocean Wave Energy Provides Continuous Renewable Power
Last week the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management announced that it will consider issuing a research lease for Oregon State University to study ocean wave energy off the Oregon coast. The Northwest National Marine Renewable Energy Center is seeking approval to build a test site about 5 miles off the Newport coast to study utility-scale wave energy devices. The project hopes to support up to 20 megawatts of renewable electricity production, BOEM said. Green Building Elements

A Portland online video player specialist revealed Wednesday it has formed a partnership with a formidable video library company. The Vadio deal with Vevo will help Vevo offer its extensive catalog — it counts more than 100,000 music videos and live concerts along with original programs — more easily. Portland Business Journal

The Companies With The Most STEM Job Openings Right Now
Currently, STEM occupations–those requiring a degree in science, technology, engineering, and math related subjects– account for more than one of every ten jobs in the U.S., with wages that are nearly double the U.S. average, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. opping the list is Seattle-based Amazon. The world’s largest online retailer is currently looking to fill 2,183 STEM jobs. Aerospace and defense technology companies are also strongly represented in the hunt for STEM talent, with Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, and Northrop Grumman all making the list with more than 1,000 job openings at each. “Occupations that require extensive computer and mathematical expertise continue to be difficult for companies to fill.” Forbes

USRA Education Scholarship Fund
The Universities Space Research Association offers the award to full- time junior and senior students who have a career interest in the physical sciences or engineering with an emphasis on space research and/ or space science education. You must have a minimum 3.5 GPA, and be a U.S. citizen to be eligible for this $1,500 award. Applications for the fall 2014 USRA Scholarship Awards will be accepted until August 1, 2014. Details

Image Sensor Device Development Intern, ON Semiconductor. The intern will use device physics to perform device characterization, analysis, modeling and understand imager operation. This position is dedicated to bench characterization and evaluation for newly developed image sensors. The candidate will collect data at the image Lab and analyze it, create and presents reports the results. The candidate will also perform TCAD simulation in electrical and optical domain. As a software engineer, you will be part of our small pathfinding team responsible for innovation and generating technology ideas that solve real-world storage problems and enhance Intel SSD solutions based on current and future NVM technologies. Development of advanced client storage architectures may encompass software modeling, design, development and debug of proof of concept code. You will also be expected to design appropriate experiments, data collection, and perform analysis and present results of novel technologies you develop. Scope of work is broad and may include storage device driver development in Windows, Android and Chrome OS as well as extending to reference and proof of concept designs in SSD device firmware. Web Strategist and Digital Communications, OSU Graduate School. The person in this position, in collaboration with Graduate School leadership, is responsible for the long-term planning and implementation of the Graduate School web presence. The position is responsible for the design, development and maintenance of the Graduate School website and related systems. Details

Enterprise Information Technology Manager, OSU University Shared Services. This position works in close collaboration with the CIOs of the Oregon public technical and regional universities to develop and maintain the prioritization of operations and projects related to their shared Ellucian Banner ERP system hosting environment. The Manager is responsible for supervising and ensuring the shared services technical support team is able to meet/exceed goals and maintain acceptable service levels. The Manager will lead operational and strategic planning, including fostering innovation, project development, and organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources for shared services technical staff. Regular contact and collaboration with the CIOs is expected in these processes. Additional consultation with an Oversight Committee is expected quarterly.
